We’re Growing to Serve You Better……
In 1975 Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital opened its doors with a mission of providing the community with state-of-the-art medical care. After serving the community for three and a half decades, the hospital has seen the Santa Clarita Valley experience tremendous growth and an aging population. As a result, the need for expanded health care services has dramatically increased.
To grow with the community, the hospital has embarked on a major long term planning project to meet local medical needs, adding key services and hospital patient capacity. The resulting 15-year Master Plan was approved in November 2008 and is currently under way.
This 15-year development plan includes approvals for an inpatient building, up to three medical office buildings, a new central plant and up to four parking structures. Other campus modifications proposed in the Master Plan include additional acute care beds in the Pavilion, a helipad on parking structure #1 and later, on the inpatient building. The Plan also includes a new ICU, a NICU, expanded imaging services, new operating rooms and centers of excellence.
As our community grows and changes, the need for superb healthcare resources increases exponentially. To meet that need, the Master Plan Expansion will allow the hospital to provide greater quality and quantity of patient care by adding more patient beds, assuring the continuation of a trauma center by restoring the helipad and adding new medical office buildings for physicians coming to our community who need to work in close proximity to hospital services.
Milestone Achievements:
Emergency Department Expansion - Spring 2010:
The new 36 bed Emergency Department was completed, providing the highest quality of emergency care and including two additional triage rooms, ‘seven fast track’ beds, a new patient lobby and children’s play area for the local community. L.A. County designated these services as “Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics.”
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Opened - August 2010:
The new 18-bed Intensive Care Unit is a highly specialized unit with technologically advanced equipment and a calming atmosphere to help patients severely impacted by trauma, disease or illness.
Parking Structure & Helipad Opened - May 2011:
New 750 space parking structure and life-saving helipad bring improved access to the facility and faster emergency/trauma care for the community.
Operating Room & Surgical Suite Expansion - October 2011:
New state-of-the-art inpatient operating room will accommodate expanded heart care services and open-heart surgery.
Opening of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) - March 2012:
Construction on the community’s first ever NICU is complete. The NICU will is scheduled to begin accepting patients in Spring 2012 once final state approval has been received.
Future Expansion
Henry Mayo Education Building (MOB 1) Groundbreaking - mid 2012:
Groundbreaking of the new education building will commence in mid 2012. The project start has been delayed due to new building codes adopted by the City of Santa Clarita. The building will now become compliant with the stricter new building codes; specifically the California Green code.
New Inpatient Hospital Building Groundbreaking - 2014:
The new inpatient hospital building will accommodate up to 120 new hospital beds. The new building will have six levels but will not exceed 85 feet in height. This important hospital addition will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and its development will provide Santa Clarita residents with upwards of 359 total hospital/patient beds right here in their local community. Anticipated to be complete in 2016, the new in-patient hospital building will help Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital to create a healthcare environment to surpass expectations for our community.
Beyond the Inpatient Building
The next 13 years’ development plan allows the hospital to respond to market demand and add more medical office buildings and parking if demand is evident. The approval extends to two medical office buildings and three parking structures additional. Those structures will be pending studies that will determine market demand and no anticipated groundbreaking or completion dates have been set for these additional projects as of January 2012.
Additional Previous Improvements - 2009
