The connection is simply the need to add more hospital beds and an acknowledgement of the reality that the local demand for hospital beds is higher than is the demand for TCU beds.
By voluntarily surrendering the TCU license and securing an acute care license, Henry Mayo is able to serve more people, including more seniors. The hospital's emergency department has too many patients waiting for a hospital bed, and that's not fair to them, nor is it the best care we are capable of giving. Reallocating beds from TCU to acute care is a short-term, small solution to a bigger need that the Master Plan will directly address.
